Parental Controls and Restrictions on Apple
The parental Controls and Restrictions on Apple is very important to configure it. It's allowed to control or manage the devices to your children. The parental Controls and Restrictions can be add on all the Apple products : iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Mac.
You can limit and block many things on your child's device but you can also restrict some settings on your own device.
What we can restrict on iPhone and iPad?
To configure the Parental Controls & Restrictions Go to Settings => Screen time
- Content & Privacy Restrictions
- Web content
- Privacy settings
- Game Center
- iTunes & App Store purchases
- Allow apps and features
- Allow changes
Content & Privacy Restrictions

- Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.

Tap Continue, choose "This is My Device" or "This is My Child's Device" :

To your device do that if you want to prevent another person from changing your settings, tap Use Screen Time Passcode to create a passcode, then re-enter the passcode to confirm. This can be used to reset your Screen Time passcode if you forget it.

Setting up Screen Time on your child's device, follow the prompts until you get to Parent Passcode and enter a passcode. This can be used to reset your Screen Time passcode if you forget it.

- Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions. If asked, enter your passcode, then turn on Content & Privacy.
If you want restrict to your child, the passcode should be different to the passcode that you use to unlock the device.
To change it or turn off the passcode on your child's device, tap Settings => Screen Time => the name to your child's device. Change Screen Time Passcode or Turn Off Screen Time Passcode, and authenticate the change with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
Web content
On Screen time => "Content & Privacy Restrictions", enter your Screen Time passcode => "Content Restrictions".
Then tap "Web Content":
- Unrestricted Access
- Limit Adult Website
- Allowed Website Only
When you select "Limit Adult Website" you have Always allow and Never allow. And when you select "Allowed Website Only", you have a list of site already allow but you can add an other. This last feature mean it's allow to have access only the website registered on the list.
For Siri you can restrict
- Web Search Content
- Explicit Language
You can Allow or don't allow them.
Privacy settings
The privacy settings on your device give you control to apps have access to information stored on your device or the hardware features. Here you can allow app to have access other app. For example allow Snapchat (social network) to use the camera, use Located, etc.
To allow or Don't allow app in Screen Time => Content and Privacy Restrictions: Tap Privacy, choose the settings that you want to restrict
You have a list that you can restrict:
- Location Services
- Contacts
- Calendars
- Reminders
- Bluetooth sharing
- Microphone
- Etc.
For example the Location Services: there are all the permission to use or not the services. you have four options
- Never Ask Next.
- Time or when I Share.
- While Using the App (or Widget).
- Always.
But some app provides 2 or 3 or 4 options.
Allow apps and features
You can allow and don't allow app. If you turn off app, it's not means the app will be delete. It will be hide to the Home Screen. To do it:
- Go to Allowed Apps (from Screen Time => Content & Privacy Restrictions)
- Select the apps that you want to allow.
Game Center
You may manage the game options. It's mean you allow or don't allow the options when you or your child will play game. To do that go to Content & Privacy Restriction => Content Restriction =>scroll until Game Center.
iTunes & App Store purchase
You may add restrict on Appstore. You can allow installing and Deleting Apps. And you can also Allow or don't allow Purchases in app. The last restrict on iTunes & App Store purchase is the Password : Always Require or Don't Require.
If it's to restrict your child you will need to enter the passcode.
Location Services
- Go to Settings => The account to be located=> Family sharing => Position sharing and activate "Share my position".
- If the iPhone does not share its position "Use the position of this iPhone".
- Select your account and press “Share my position”.
- To stop position sharing, tap the account name, then tap “Stop sharing my position”
Location sharing makes it possible to see in real time and we can especially put borders that send notifications in case of overflow programmed on the iPhone.
Allow changes
If you scroll down on Content & Privacy Restrictions, you will found "Allow changes". It's allow you to changes other settings and features.
Privacy settings on Mac
To set a Parental control on Mac Tap on Apple menu => System Preferences => Parental Controls
- Connect your Admin account to the computer or create one
- Enable Parental Controls
- Create the account by clicking "Add"
- Create the account and set the control according to the profile of each account.
The admin can set what the user will control with six different restrictions categories: Apps, Web, Stores, Time, Privacy, and Other.
Block access apps on Mac
To block app on Mac
- Select an account
- Tap the App tab
- Select to give or remove access app
- You can also select other app that you installed by clicking on "Other Apps"
Block access iTunes
To block features on iTunes
- Select an account
- Tap the iTunes tab
- Enable or Disable features
Other Features
The time allow you to add schedule activity. After hours, the device will shut down.
Check the activity to my child
With the Parental Controls, you can Block, give access, Allow. You can check her activity in the Web and which app he us it, how long. You can analyse her activity to this period "Today, One Week, One Month, Three Month, Six Month, One Year, All".
You can block website:
- Allow unrestricted access to websites
- Try to limit access to adult websites (customize)
- Allow access to only these websites (add and remove websites)
